Turnberry has granted a special 90‑day underwriting concession exclusively for Genesis Medical Scheme members. This concession allows members to transfer existing gap cover or join for the first time with significantly reduced waiting periods, making it easier to access the HealthGap 300 and HealthGap 500 products developed with HealthGroup.
About HealthGroup & the Turnberry HealthGap Gap Cover Solution
HealthGroup is an independent financial services provider that specialises in medical scheme and gap cover advisory services. We identified that Genesis Medical Scheme’s benefit design is unique in the market, with specific areas where members may face medical expense shortfalls. To address these needs, HealthGroup approached Turnberry, an independent gap cover provider, to develop bespoke gap cover products tailored specifically for Genesis members.
These products, HealthGap 300 and HealthGap 500, were designed to complement Genesis’ benefits and provide targeted protection where shortfalls are most likely to occur.
HealthGap 300 is designed for members on Genesis MED‑100 who want affordable protection against common medical shortfalls. Covering tariff rate shortfalls up to 300%, in hospital MRI/CT co‑payments, casualty benefits, trauma counselling, and limited scope/scan cover when the medical scheme benefit is exhausted. It is ideal for younger members, individuals, and families seeking cost‑effective gap cover aligned to the MED‑100 option. Includes R5m international travel insurance.

HealthGap 500 is tailored for members on Genesis MED‑200 and MED‑200 Plus, offering broader protection and higher limits. It increases specialist and related in‑hospital charges up to 500% of scheme rate, and includes enhanced cover for prosthesis sub‑limits, MRI/CT co‑payments, scope co‑payments, casualty benefits, trauma counselling, and traditional cancer co‑payments. It is suited to individuals and families who want more comprehensive gap protection aligned to the MED‑200 benefit structure. Includes R5m international travel insurance.

New Gap Cover Members (First‑Time Joiners)
If you do not currently have gap cover, you can join Turnberry during the concession period with reduced waiting periods* limited only to pregnancy, musculoskeletal conditions, and cancer.
Existing Gap Cover Members (Transfers)
If you already have gap cover with another provider, you can transfer to Turnberry during the concession period with no waiting periods, no exclusions, and no underwriting loadings. This ensures seamless continuation of cover for Genesis members.
Concession Dates & Cut‑off
The concession runs from 15th August to 15th November 2026. Applications must be submitted by 15th November 2026 for start dates up to and including 1 November 2026.
